If you don’t watch this show, you should. It follows the fictional Secretary of State, Elizabeth McCord, through the drama of representing the United States to the world. Many of the episodes tackle issues that sound eerily familiar to recent world events, and I always learn something whenever I tune in.
Downside: it airs on Sunday nights, so DVRing it can be difficult if the show is delayed due to football.
Upside: you can watch for free online at cbs.com
Yes, I know I am late to the party on this one. The Good Wife concluded after seven seasons in May 2016, but thanks to my parents’ love for the show, and its full availability on Hulu, it is now our (that’s me and the boyfriend, not just me and the cats!) go to evening binge show.
The show follows Alicia Florrick, a lawyer who recently returned to work after a stint as a stay at home mom. The catch: she has to go back to work because her husband, the former State’s Attorney, is in prison.

If you couldn’t tell by my TV show recommendations, I am a pretty politically minded person. I recently heard someone say that they don’t worry about politics much, because they just don’t see how it impacts them on a day to day basis. Well, thank you for getting out my soap box for me! Your voice matters, and politics impact your life EVERYDAY, whether it is in how much you pay in sales tax at the grocery store, where you can buy your favorite wine, or the condition of the roads you drive on. That is why it is so important to vote, and I was so excited about it that I just couldn’t wait until November 6th, so I did it early.
Need info on whether you are registered and where to vote? Look no further.
I got stuck on this book about a third of the way in and went probably a full ten days without reading at all. However, the last third of the book hooked me again once I powered through, and I loved the strong female characters that wrapped up the story.
This may be my favorite book of the year. Jodi Picoult takes on abortion in this story, and does so with a grace and empathy that only she can provide. Each character is developed so well, that you can truly understand them, even if you are on the opposite side of the issue than they are.
I was anxious about starting another book after finishing A Spark of Light, but Elin Hilderbrand’s beach mystery hit the sweet spot! Nothing sucks me into a story like a secret life on a tropical island that no one knew about until an accident that killed three people. I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out next fall.
My fascination with Alicia Florrick is not going away anytime soon. The cases she tackles make me think, but not so hard that I can’t relax. This show will be my go to evening wind down show until every episode has been watched.
